Common Solutions for iPhone 7 Problems
As great as iPhone 7 is, like any device, it has issues and bugs associated with it. While the device is finally water-resistant, and has a great camera, and we love the dual speaker setup there are still some issues that many users are experiencing. We have collected and analyzed the most common iPhone 7 issues and have collated them with their appropriate solutions as wells as an explanation of why the issues exist in order to keep you productive and working.
Phone app crashing or freezing
Many iPhone 7 users have reported this issue. The most common symptoms of this problem are having the phone crash or lock while in the Phone app's setting, Recent Calls menu, or having dropped calls while using Bluetooth headsets. Resetting the phone and even a factory reset have not fixed the issue. This issue appears to be software related in origin.Potential fixes
- Update to iOS 10.3.2 - keeping your system's OS updated is always good because any exploits have been patched and known issues have been repaired.
- If the problem began after the update, then paradoxically, the update might be the issue. Yes, updates can cause more problems than they fix - but this is incredibly rare. If you can, restore your iPhone 7 to a backup made before the update was installed and reinstall the update.
- A common workaround is to turn off Exchange contacts: go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts, then tap Exchange account(s) and switch the Contacts slider off.
Poor phone call speaker quality
This is probably the most reported issue with iPhone 7. Complaints consistently say that incoming audio is difficult if not too low to hear. Many threads on Apple support forums document this issue and it is enough of a problem that Apple has updated a support page in an attempt to help users with this problem. This problem is complex and could be caused by a number of things but it seems to be driver related.Official support solutions from Apple
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.If you can not get sound out of the speaker, or nothing changes after trying the aforementioned methods, contact Apple Support.
- If you can get audio out of the speaker, there are several methods to troubleshoot:
- Check the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the phone to make sure it’s not set to Silent - no orange color by the switch
- Next, open Settings > Do Not Disturb and check that Do Not Disturb is off
- Make sure your case is not blocking the speaker.
- Clean any dirt, dust, or debris out of the speaker.
- Launch an app that plays audio or sound effects and adjust the volume using the volume keys or Control Center controls.
- Restart iPhone.
Inability to activate
Many people have experienced frustration with their new iPhone 7 right out of the box by being unable to activate their phone by getting a message saying the activation server is unavailable. Apple servers are unable to keep up with the volume of people activating their iPhones. Before you activate check that the servers are operating normally. This issue is most likely due to high volumes of traffic on the activation servers - simply too many people are trying to activate their iPhone 7 at once.Potential fixes
- Turn phone off and on again.
- Update iTunes - if iTunes is not up to date there might be issues authenticating activation.
- Use Wi-Fi instead of cellular connection to update.
- Contact carrier and ask about any known issues with iPhone 7 activation - you might need a replacement SIM card.
- If still unable to activate - contact Apple Support.
