iPhone 8 Rumors

The iPhone has been with us for 10 years. The legacy of this product can not be overstated. The panache that this product has persisted to this day and is instantly recognizable in any of its previous iterations. This is the phone that killed the flip phone. Remember those? Forever after the iPhone's 2007 release, people wanted to have a smartphone.
Most smartphones are not iPhones, but most imitate its design to a significant degree. Pinch to zoom, GPS, threaded texts, even selfies and their sticks can all trace their popularity back to iPhone.
Rumors swirl that this coming fall Apple will release a new design that will have some major new features to mark the 10th year of this flagship product.
What do we know?
Nothing - this is all speculation and rumor.
What do we think we know?
As with any product with sufficient buzz about it, there are rumors and leaked photos and designs. If enough people with well-placed, if often sketchy, sources come out with leaks that confirm the same thing then we can begin to put together what Apple has in store for us come Fall 2017.
Reliable Speculation the First
The new design will be slightly larger than the iPhone 7 while having a screen comparable to the iPhone 7 Plus.
Persistent leaked photos from alleged "iPhone 8" molds show that the new design will be just as described with a display of 18.5:9, up from 16:9. The astute among you will recognize this to the aspect ratio of Samsung's S8.
This means that the screen will likely take up more landscape on the front of the phone with little surface area being unused.
Reliable Speculation the Second
One of three likely phones to be released- tentatively an "iPhone 7s", "iPhone 7s Plus", and "iPhone 8"- will have a glass body, most likely the new design of the "iPhone 8".
Allegedly, the glass body will be used to differentiate the aluminum body design of all iPhones post-iPhone 4. This will also allow for wireless charging of your iPhone!
To keep the physics to a minimum, aluminum/metal cases are very difficult to get reliably charged with inductive power transfer. The metal will react with the magnetic field and induce eddy currents that will sap the power. No such issue happen with glass/plastic bodies. Thus we can reliably expect at least one new iPhone to be wirelessly chargeable.
Reliable Speculation the Third
An AMOLED screen. OLEDs have been used in phones in the past, namely the S8, and for good reason: they are more energy efficient and display the truest possible colors. Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes (AMOLED) are thinner and more flexible than LCD displays while having a faster refresh rate and better contrast ratio. AMOLEDs are a subset of OLEDs.
If the new iPhone has an AMOLED screen be prepared to take selfies that look great on your screen.
Alas, the screen is likely to be made out of Gorilla Glass and not sapphire glass. The technology behind consistently creating this ridiculously durable glass is just not scalable to the size of an iPhone yet. Those with Apple Watch know of the remarkable strength and scratch resistant properties of sapphire glass.
Reliable Speculation the Fourth
Facial recognition with a 3D sensor that will replace the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
This is reliably backed up by Bloomberg Business. The removal of the Touch ID sensor makes sense as it allows for a seamless glass panel that would allow almost all of the face of the phone to be the screen - edge to edge display. If the Touch ID was going to be placed on the back, as earlier rumors claimed, then there would be a window in the case for this. There is not and it seems comfortable for us to picture a bezel-less front of the new iPhone that is essentially just a screen- how svelte, how sexy!
Reliable Speculation the Fifth
There will be more rumors and more alleged leaks that claim to show what the new iPhone will look like.
Unfortunately, the new iPhone is not here yet. Dismayingly, it might cost around $1000. Regardless Apple does seem to have an elegant and well designed new iPhone set for release this Fall and I am very excited for it to be released so we can end this speculation.
